Showcase War of the Worlds
War of the Worlds Premiere
For the first time in the history of London premieres, Westminster Council authorised the closure of Leicester Square to the public one day prior to allow us to transform it into an ‘after the invasion’ ruin. We built additional ‘stone’ pieces to match the central fountain to look like parts of it had broken off, sourced crashed cars, bent lamp posts, broken window frames and other bits of architecture...
40 tons of rubble and 6 tons of soil were crammed in to create burning craters. We built a large concrete tunnel to look like it had blown out of the Tube Station and wound 100m of bloody veins round the site. Pyrotechnics included smoke, flames and sparks from the craters and explosions from the crashed cars. We used actors to add to the post-apocalyptic atmosphere and had disorientating radio white noise emanating from the tunnel. We built a security tent along the north side of the square and guests walked through the central gardens as a pre-experience to watching the film. The event received fabulous press coverage for the client and was deemed to be a huge success.
